Blog Five: Design
Good day everyone!
I almost forgot to post something, so here I am, a day late! Have you ever gotten so fixated on something that you forget all your other responsibilities? Well, that’s exactly what's happening to me right now. I’ve been keeping up with my writing, but I recently got a new phone, and instead of getting a basic, generic case off Amazon, I thought, why not design my own? And that’s where the obsession kicked in.
I’ve put my other illustration projects on hold—just a tiny bit—to focus on this one. It’s also made me rethink what I truly enjoy drawing. I usually try to create things that are similar to other artists’ work or what seems marketable, but when I step back, I realize I love drawing and doodling things like:
Original Characters/People
Fashion
Cute things (which is totally subjective)
Eyes
Stars
Hearts
Usually in that order! So now, if I’m going to create illustrations, I want to include most, if not all, of these elements. I also want my work to reflect what I genuinely enjoy creating, which is:
Quick, simple illustrations
Long, narrative stories
As well as mediums I enjoy:
Markers
Ink
Designer gouache
I recently made some illustrations inspired by fashion magazine photos. I played around with the poses, then redrew them digitally so I could color them. I’m thinking of turning them into coloring pages and selling them on Gumroad, either for free or for a dollar. If I do, I’ll post the link here. My plan is to do the illustrations in Sharpies and then digitally render them.
Well, that’s a lot more than I expected to share! Until next time, じゃあね (see you)!
